What Can I Eat If I Have IBS? | GI Society

After an IBS diagnosis, the first question most people have is, “what can I eat?” However, diet for IBS is a complicated topic. While there are some dietary protocols, such as the low FODMAP diet, that tend to be effective in many people, each person reacts differently, so the ideal diet for one person with IBS isn’t necessarily the same for another. Red meat that is not industrially farmed is a superfood. Don't buy in to the BS extolled by disingenuous epidemiological research which classifies any processed food containing meat as meat. We evolved over millions of years with meat as our primary source of nutrition, it's what our bodies require to thrive.

I got on progesterone oboe birth control and it made my flare go away. Completely normal now. I usually flare for MONTHS. this lasted a WEEK. Trick the body into thinking it’s pregnant and it won’t attack the viral load that’s come out of dormancy. I’m sure my colitis came from a viral diagnosis in 2009. butt stuff on RUclips talks about it

My Crohns is really getting me down at the moment. Ive felt ill for a few weeks with zero energy. I have two young kids so it sometimes makes me irritable and I don't have the energy to play with them. I also find it hard that you're never sure if you feel ill whether its linked to a flare or not. Ive had headaches for weeks and no idea if its Crohns or something else as Crohns and the medications can obviously lead to so many different symptoms

Just got out of the hospital with a c.diff infection, been home a week now and nothing has changed, still major watery poo, that hits about 10-20 times a day. It's kind of orangish/yellow color and has an odd smell. Doc said they have exhausted all antibiotics used to treat it, so I guess this means I'm going to be in hospital often or just die from it.

Thank you, this is VERY informative. I was in a head-on collision with a semi 6 months ago and lost 185cm of my small intestine and part of my colon from the seat belt. I have 180cm left and never thought I would be wearing diapers at 37yo. I broke my right talus, 1 left toe, 2 right toes, both femurs, right ilium, a left rib, 3 backbones, and my right wrist. My biggest problem is finding a gastroenterologist to help me with this😢

Or ill just unalive myself, honestly. Ibs is so awful. You can’t eat whatever you want without having to blow up a bathroom or two, constant pain and suffering It’s like life punishing you for having a good time. Stress makes it worse which make me stressed that my symptoms will get worse! It’s just a circle of torture life out since there’s no cure for it aswell oh… and let’s not forget that ibs is an undiagnosed diagnosis! whatever you do your stomach is gonna hit you with more hell, and it’s nothing you really talk about. I told my closest friend that I have ibs and she laughed- yeah she fucking laughed. Yeah SO FUN! my life is ruined, i can’t even drink alcohol without blowing a toilet. it’s like god put me on earth for people to humiliate. i’m literally not gonna accept this “lifestyle” diagnosis. it’s not fun, it’s embarrassing and it is basically not a life you want. now idk your ibs but mine is so fucking bad that it’s not even fun anymore. I wake up, feel pain and think hm what should I have for breakfast without looking pregnant, get bad abdominal pain and a explosive diarreha for school!🎁💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

Suffering since 2 months.. recovering day by day... Last 3 days completely normal... What I followed is.. 1. Elimination gluten and Sugar 2. Gentle Yoga 3. Pranayam 4. 35 mins walk... Day by day I feel I am improving a little bit.. Dear IBS community, have you ever observed if we are in hurry or if we are supposed to complete any target in time may it be simple cooking or any simple task in time... Due to even simple worry our stomach contracts. And doesn't feel like relax stomach... We have to observe this very carefully,....I think this is the reason.. it starts feeling abnormal,.. For that meditation, stressfree no time bound commitment, slow and peaceful working style.. rhythmic pattern of breathing is very necessary to keep brain gut in sync.. I had this IBS 3 YEARS BACK resolved in 2 months then again 1 year back... Again resolved in 1 month and now since last 2 months... Resolving slowly .. since last 3 days....❤

I think everyone has certain food triggers. Many are the same but it’s a vicious cycle of trial and error. I tried the FODMAPs diet which helped me with eliminating a few things I found are triggers including onions, garlic. wheat, beans and chickpeas, and cashews. I also can’t handle fried foods or dairy. The diet is based on the fact that certain fruits and veggies are quickly digested by bacteria in the gut which can cause bloating and gas. I hardly have either issue after following the diet. I’m also hardly ever nauseous because I usually only have that issue if I’m bloated. Now I’m mainly dealing with chronic fatigue, both constipation and diarrhea, and pain from an ulcer. Still not at severe as a few months ago.

I always got diarrhea if I ate extra spicy foods, or after drinking milk and coffee. My blood type is O which can't consume dairy and caffeine. At first, I thought I have hemorrhoid or leaky gut after colonoscopy, the doctor don't say anything. But when I asked my friend who work as doctor in Sweden, she always said that's IBS symptoms because she had it too.

I have had episodes of Ulcerative Colitis, diagnosed by colonoscopy about every 5 - 6 years for the last 20 years, one requiring hospitalisation and the others managed by diet, medication and lots of rest for about one month. The periods in between have been totally free of signs and symptoms, and any medication. I eat well and can afford the best of food without too much grains and sugar. I have noticed in retrospect that most of the onsets have been following tension in my life. As a retired medical doctor I am clear that this is a multifactorial disease which requires flexibility in the approach to managing and curing this inflammatory disease. The research is clear that medication is only a small part of this unfortunate process.

This is from my experience and research of published articles. If this helps anyone suffering with uc, I celebrate you. I believe uc is a symptom and the underlying cause is multi-dimensional. Almost 60 yesrs ago, the primary cause for me was my inability to deal with rejection and cruel gaslighting. The assault on self image as a teen in process of finding who she is changed behaviors. Self care, heallthy eating, mindset all deteriorated to neglect and self hatred. It is a fact that deficiencies of B1, B12, Folic acid, Iron, Mg, Zinc , Vitamin C, Vitamin A & D, omega-3s result in mucosal ulcers in corresponding degrees. Bacteria invade these breaks in the intestinal mucosa and stimulate a somewhat violent immune response. Yes some food sensitivities can set up the GI tract for problems. For me it is nightshades, dry beans including soy products, commercial baked goods, refined sugars, convenience foods loaded with preservatives. For 20 years I had zero symptoms after recovering from a long hospitalization for sepsis and toxic megacolon. I did this with a diet primarily of chicken, beef fish, a variety of vegetables and fruits, lots of greens. Almost no bread, rare treats, limited dairy. I did this on my own and kept my body very fit. I rebewed my Spiritual connection with God and set boundaries for relationships. I enjoyed creative outlets like singing and art. About 20 years later, When I could not leave a hostile and stressful, job environment my healthy diet reverted to convenience foods or not eating at all. My gut blew up after antibiotic treatment for bronchitis. It spiraled out of control rapidly and I had life-saving surgery that impacted my nutrition permanently. So I now replace a lot of the vitamins and minerals daily because my transit time is less than 2 hours. Dehydration is a daily battle and I have 2° stage 3-4 kidney issuesbecause of it. My point is this. If you are troubled with IBD or uc, self assess your diet, your lifestyle, how you deal with negative emotions. We sensitive types tend to internalize emotional pain, and that results in stored trauma. Resolves nothing. In my case, uc was my body's response to self neglect and internalizing emotional stress and negativity, and not loving me enough to take care of myself spiritually, physically, or emotionally. It really is all about balance. My heartfelt desire is that if you benefit from my experience, you find the best ways to eliminate GI issues permanently. I have a MS in Microbiology and Preventive Medicine, I am 75, and I expect to live well to 100 and beyond. Best wishes for your good health, may God bless you with love.

I lost my ability to get an appetite at 15 when I first got severely sick throwing up everyday for months and I sadly have to smoke to eat and just relax my stomach from/after throwing up. I honestly keep gaining trigger foods like recently I started developing stomach issues after tomatoes so I’m convinced the list will continue 😂😭

Did you try quitting gluten (and probably sugar & alcohol)?

@@c.h.7581 I don't take alcohol or tobacco. I avoid milk being lactose intolerant. Gluten intake is also low.

🚫Caffeine. Stay Hydrated. Everyone goes through UC and CD differently. Test and see if certain foods are causing the problem. Some foods may cause constipation, some diarrhea. I am sorry you are going through this.
